The Unbounded Dead-end Depth Property Is not a Group Invariant

چکیده
The dead-end depth of an element g of a group with finite generating set A is the distance from g to the complement of the radius dA(1, g) closed ball, in the word metric dA. We exhibit a finitely presented group K with two finite generating sets A and B such that dead-end depth is unbounded on K with respect to A but is bounded above by three with respect to B.

متن کاملSome Remarks on Depth of Dead Ends in Groups
It is known, that the existence of dead ends (of arbitrary depth) in the Cayley graph of a group depends on the chosen set of generators. Nevertheless there exist many groups, which do not have dead ends of arbitrary depth with respect to any set of generators. Partial results in this direction were obtained by Šunić and by Warshall. We improve these results by showing that abelian groups only ...

The dead end depth of an element g of a group G with finite generating set A is the distance from g to the complement of the radius dA(1, g) closed ball, in the word metric dA defined with respect to A. We say that G has infinite dead end depth when dead end depth is unbounded, ranging over G. We exhibit a finitely presented group G with a finite generating set, with respect to which G has infi...
متن کاملAn Approach to Deriving Maximal Invariant Statistics
Invariance principles is one of the ways to summarize sample information and by these principles invariance or equivariance decision rules are used. In this paper, first, the methods for finding the maximal invariant function are introduced. As a new method, maximal invariant statistics are constructed using equivariant functions. Then, using several equivariant functions, the maximal invariant...
متن کامل$PI$-extending modules via nontrivial complex bundles and Abelian endomorphism rings
A module is said to be $PI$-extending provided that every projection invariant submodule is essential in a direct summand of the module. In this paper, we focus on direct summands and indecomposable decompositions of $PI$-extending modules. To this end, we provide several counter examples including the tangent bundles of complex spheres of dimensions bigger than or equal to 5 and certain hyper ...
